You have not found an answer to all of your questions on this site?

You can of course contact me, but perhaps this list of questions and answers can help you.

Do you adjust the cleats?

A bike fitting without checking the correct position of the cleats is inconceivable. It is an important element of the fit, both for an optimal force transfer and the prevention of problems upstream: knees, hips, … up to to the hands. Please do NOT replace the cleats prior to the session; we might lose an important source of information.
The adjustment of the cleats is, therefore, part of the fit,  but is also proposed in an isolated session. In this case, I prefer that you come with your bike so that I check in dynamics the accuracy of the settings and the need to proceed to other adaptations (varus, valgus, leg length discrepancy, pressure distribution, length of the pedals spindles, …)

Are the adaptations of my bike immediate?

As far as your equipment allows, yes. Limits may, however, be imposed by:

  • components that no longer correspond to current standards,
  • a completely wrong frame size.

If the corrections to be made are too important, an immediate change may be harmful if you are sensitive; your musculoskeletal system should not be rushed and adaptations should be progressive, especially if your old position dates back many years.

Do you give me recommendations for the purchase of the next bike after the fitting?

You only get a list of bikes, corresponding to your position, following the bike-sizing, but not after your bike-fitting. The final result of your bike fitting can direct you to a type of geometry and possibly some brands and models that can be taken into account.

On request (using a new contact form, please), model recommendations with the exact size and necessary components can be made in a second step: the “bike prescription”. It requires concentration, research, calculations, email exchanges, and some knowledge, so ….. time. I hope I can count on your understanding if this time is charged at 20 € per quarter of an hour.
The more precise your request, the less it will cost you.

  • The calculations are based on precise coordinates, not on evaluations. These are the coordinates measured at the end of your fitting.
  • I only use them for the next bike calculations if you want to keep your final position resulting from your fitting.
  • If the last fitting is more than two years old, I recommend a bike-sizing!
  • Remember the limitations of fitting: the final position of the fitting is the one allowed by your bike and its components. Ideally, your bike should match perfectly your position. Unfortunately, very often, the opposite occurs: a position that could be better but that has to adapt to the bike and its components. That’s the reason why I recommend a bike sizing for the purchase of the next dream bike. The cost of such a session is ridiculous compared to the money you lose if you buy the wrong bike.

Can I copy my fit coordinates from one bike to another?

Yes, but then the bike must be identical. Do not copy your road bike measurements on a Mountain Bike or on a triathlon bike. It usually does not work and if it does, you will find that it is not a good idea.

If geometry and components are identical, no problem. If not, you will have to adapt and expect some differences. In any case, it must be ensured that the necessary adaptations do not affect your safety and the bike’s handling.

Does the postural optimization consist of one single session?

Unfortunately, many cyclists do not come back once their bike is properly tuned until they change their bike. Yet against, in my opinion, your postural optimization should only be the beginning of our relationship. If you want it.

First, each cyclist reacts differently to changes of his position. This can be observed during the session, but also during the rides following the corrections. The “lab” conditions, while representing a good basis for optimizing your position, are different from the field conditions. It may be that you feel differently on the roads or on the track what you described during your fitting. It is therefore important that we stay in touch for the first few weeks after your session.

Then, it may be some modifications have to be made in a progressive way. I will remain at your disposal to guide you.

Finally, you change every day and even on the same day. The way you felt were during the session is probably different from the days before and different from the days that follow. And you change with time; the position that suits you today may not be appropriate after several years, sometimes several months, depending on your history.

Once fitted, fitted forever? Unfortunately not!

Can I expect a discount if I have been sent by a friend who has already visited Bikefit.lu?

Giving a discount would mean that the service is not worth the price 😉
I don’t give a discount but, on the other hand, the person who recommended you to come and see me will be thanked with a gift voucher if you mention her or him. You will of course benefit from the same attention 🙂

My kid practices cycling more intensively. As he is still growing, is a postural optimization already indicated?

  • harmful compensation
  • increased risk of overload injuries, mainly knee overload and deformation of the spine
  • lack of comfort, therefore loss of performance
  • loss of pleasure, demotivation

Cycling is a sport that can become expensive and changing the bike every year is only appreciated by the cyclist who is sponsored ?. Fortunately, for a while, it is possible to adapt the bike with updated settings and possibly the replacement of components.

Teenagers get a 25% discount on postural optimization, … because it’s important !!

Do you optimize any type of bike

Yes, I adjust any type of bike, but less necessary for downhill, enduro, freeride bikes, the position on the bike changing all the time depending on the terrain. A good basic setting will do it. The rider’s sensations and style will be more important than biomechanics. Of course, here too, some bad settings can have consequences of joint or muscle overload.

I have orthotics in my street shoes and running shoes. Can I use them in my bike shoes?

There is in principle no contraindication, but depending on what your insoles correct, the effect will be less or at worst absent in your bike shoes.

When walking or running, the feet “roll out” on the ground. In the practice of cycling with clipless pedals, the shoe does not change its position on the pedal. The pressure zone remains the forefoot, generally with a limited movement of pronation,  supination, and rotation, the amplitude of which varies according to the individuals and the shoes. If your insoles correct the forefoot, they can help you in your bike shoes, but there are few orthotics that only correct this area.

If you want more comfort with better stability of the foot in the bike shoe, I make custom insoles on the spot. The advantage is that you gain in power output thanks to more comfort and stability. The disadvantage is that you will not be able to do without any more ?

If your orthotics have been designed to compensate leg length discrepancy by raising the heel, this correction will have no effect on the bike, pushing on the pedal being done here with the forefoot. The solution is either to place a shim between the sole of your shoe and the cleat or to thicken the sole of the shoe over its entire length. The thickness required will be different depending on whether the difference in leg length comes from the tibia or from the femur.

Do you sell bikes?

No, the postural optimization is not related to bike sales. You come with your bike and you leave with it. Of course, I store components in order to adapt your bike to your position on the spot, but selling is not the goal of bike fitting.

If you have had a fit, we can discuss the points you will need to pay attention to for your next purchase. If you’ve had a sizing to buy a new bike, we see together which brands and models come closest to what you need, in all neutrality. If you are sent by a competent bicycle dealer, our cooperation can only be beneficial.
