FAQs

General Questions

Yes, I can adjust various  types of bikes, including:

  • Road bikes
  • Triathlon bikes
  • Time trial bikes
  • Mountain bikes
  • Gravel bikes
  • Touring bikes
  • And more (even tandems).

Each fitting is tailored to your specific needs and preferences  and your intended cycling discipline.

Yes, I work with cyclists of all levels, from beginners to experienced riders, and cater to various cycling disciplines. Whether you’re just starting or a seasoned cyclist, I can tailor the fitting to suit your individual needs and goals.

Bike fitting is a personalized process that optimizes the interaction between you and your bike to enhance comfort, efficiency, and performance. It involves adjusting various components such as saddle height, handlebar position, and cleat alignment to achieve an optimal riding position tailored to your unique biomechanics and cycling goals.

You are invited to read a more detailed description on the ‘Services’ page.

If you have less than two hours available, minimal discomfort while riding, or if you simply want to ensure a healthy posture, the ‘Express’ formula should suffice.

For those with orthopedic issues, a history of trauma, or experiencing bike-related discomfort without saddle discomfort, the ‘Basic’ fit is recommended. This option includes functional tests to provide a deeper understanding of your riding dynamics and biodynamics.

If you experience discomfort related to the saddle in addition to the previously mentioned issues, the ‘Ortho’ formula is the best choice. This includes saddle pressure mapping during pedaling for more accurate adjustments compared to the Basic fit.

Bike sizing involves determining the appropriate frame size and geometry based on your biomecanics, riding preferences, and intended cycling discipline. It ensures that your bike fits you correctly, promoting comfort, control, and efficiency while riding.

You are invited to read a more detailed description on the ‘Services’ page.

Standalone sessions offer specific services such as cleat adjustment, saddle testing, crank length assessment, and other individualized adjustments to optimize your bike fit and performance.

You are invited to read a more detailed descriptions on the ‘Services’ page.

No, postural optimization is not tied to bike sales. When you come in for a fitting, you bring your bike, and you leave with it. Sizing is posture-oriented and not brand-dependent. While I have components in stock to adapt your bike to your position on the spot, selling bikes is not the primary goal of the fitting process.

If you’ve had a fit, we can discuss aspects to consider for your next bike purchase. In the case of sizing for a new bike, we collaboratively explore which brands and models align best with your needs in a neutral manner. If you are referred by a knowledgeable bike dealer, our collaboration can be mutually beneficial.

However, there is an exception: I am proud to be one of the selected bike-fitters through which you can purchase KÚ CYCLE, a distinctive brand of triathlon bikes. This brand recognizes the significance of bike-fitters and opts not to sell bikes directly to customers but through the often overlooked pre-fit (bike-sizing) session.

Absolutely. The earlier, the better. A bike that is too big or too small forces your child to adapt their position to the bike. As you’ve learned from browsing this site, it’s essential that the cyclist’s position suits them, and their bike should be adapted accordingly. Forcing adaptation can lead to harmful compensation, an increased risk of overload injuries (especially in the knees and potential spine deformation), reduced comfort, resulting in a loss of performance and pleasure, leading to demotivation.

Cycling can be an investment, and changing the bike every year might not be feasible for everyone. Fortunately, adjustments and component replacements can help extend the life of the bike.

To encourage the importance of postural optimization for teenagers, there’s a 25% discount on the service. Because it’s crucial!

Regrettably, many cyclists don’t return once their bike is properly tuned until they change their bike. Yet, in my view, postural optimization should only mark the beginning of our relationship—should you wish it.

Firstly, each cyclist reacts uniquely to changes in their position. This can be observed during the session and in rides following the corrections. While ‘lab’ conditions provide a solid foundation for optimizing your position, real-world conditions may bring about different sensations. It’s crucial that we stay in touch during the initial weeks after your session.

Secondly, some modifications may need to be made progressively. I’ll be readily available to guide you through these adjustments.

Lastly, you change every day, even on the same day. The way you felt during the session may differ from days before and after. Over time, you evolve; a position suitable today may not be ideal after several years, or even months, depending on your personal history.

Fitted once, fitted forever? Unfortunately not!

In principle, there are no contraindications, but the effectiveness of your insoles in your cycling shoes may vary depending on what they correct. Unlike walking or running, where the feet ‘roll out’ on the ground, cycling with clipless pedals involves minimal movement, primarily in the forefoot, with limited pronation, supination, and rotation.

If your insoles correct the forefoot, they can offer some benefit in your bike shoes, although few orthotics solely address this area. For enhanced comfort and stability in your cycling shoes, I can craft custom insoles on the spot. While this boosts power output through improved comfort and stability, the trade-off is that you may find it challenging to cycle without them afterward 😉.

If your orthotics compensate for leg length discrepancy by raising the heel, this correction won’t affect cycling, as pedaling primarily engages the forefoot. To address this, you can either place a shim between the sole of your shoe and the cleat or thicken the sole of the shoe across its length, with the required thickness varying based on whether the leg length difference stems from the tibia or femur.

If you don’t experience significant discomfort while riding your bike and feel you can ride it comfortably, we can proceed with the fitting after you’ve had several rides to familiarize yourself with your bike. However, if you’re experiencing significant discomfort, it’s best not to wait too long to book your fitting session.

Services and Sessions

Your bike fitting or sizing session commences with an interview to tailor the session according to your specific requirements. For Basic or Ortho fits, I conduct functional tests to assess your biomechanics before you hop on your bike on a trainer. During the session, I perform a comprehensive evaluation of your riding position, make adjustments to bike components such as saddle height, handlebar position, and cleat alignment, and offer recommendations for optimal bike setup based on your biomechanics and riding objectives. Following the adjustments, you have the opportunity to test ride and provide first feedback (applicable to Basic & Ortho sessions). Your initial and final fit coordinates will be sent to you via email after the session.

Your bike sizing session begins with a personalized interview to align the session with your individual requirements and objectives. Using a fit-bike, you will pedal while I make real-time adjustments to fine-tune your position. Following a specific protocol, your final position on the fit-bike provides me with your coordinates, which I use to curate a list of bikes that match your optimal position.

After the session, you will receive an email containing your final fit coordinates along with a list of recommended bike models. This list will include details such as frame size and geometry, stem length and spacer height, crank length, and any other components needed for optimal fit.

Standalone sessions offer specific services such as cleat adjustment, saddle testing, crank length assessment, and other individualized adjustments to optimize your bike fit and performance.

You are invited to read a more detailed descriptions on the ‘Services’ page.

Yes, I can customize your session based on your specific needs and concerns. Whether you require adjustments to address discomfort, improve performance, or enhance comfort, I can tailor my services to meet your requirements.

Yes, I offer custom insoles and footbeds tailored to your individual foot shape and biomechanics. These can significantly improve comfort and performance during your rides.

If you already know which service you require, you can use the booking calendar at the bottom of this page, where all the proposed services can be booked. Alternatively, you can book from almost any page on this site

Yes, you can book multiple sessions for different services based on your requirements. My online booking system allows you to schedule appointments for various services separately or consecutively as needed.

I operate on a trust basis and do not require a deposit to secure your booking. However, in the event that you need to cancel or reschedule your fitting or sizing session, I kindly request that you notify me at least two working days before the scheduled date. If the cancellation or rescheduling occurs later than this, I appreciate a compensation of 100 € via bank transfer to account for the time lost. For further details, please refer to my booking terms and conditions.

Absolutely! You deserve a better tariff as I greatly appreciate your loyalty. Please check the second pricing table on the pricing page. Thank you for your continued support!

If you’re unsure whether to choose the Basic or Ortho formula, we can assess your needs on the same day to determine which option is most suitable for you.

However, if you’ve already selected the Express formula, which typically lasts no longer than two hours, please note that changes cannot be accommodated on the same day due to scheduling constraints.

Around your session

As far as your equipment allows, yes. However, there may be limits imposed by components that no longer correspond to current standards or a completely wrong frame size. If significant corrections are needed, an immediate change may be harmful, especially if your musculoskeletal system is sensitive. Adaptations should be progressive, particularly if your old position dates back many years, to ensure a careful and well-paced adjustment process.

Normally, yes, unless your frame is significantly too small or too large. I keep a stock of components (stems, handlebars, aerobars, saddles, pedals, cleats, and more) to enhance your position. I can install them during the session. However, if you have specific preferences for brands, I will provide you with the information needed for you to make the changes yourself. If you want me to do it, please understand that this service will be charged.

Your bike and its setup are measured before and after the adjustments. A comprehensive fit report, along with the initial and final video sequences (Basic & Ortho), will be sent to you by email. Rest assured, your data is always saved. If you happen to lose them, feel free to contact me for assistance.

A bike fitting without checking the correct position of the cleats is inconceivable. It is a crucial element for optimal force transfer and preventing issues upstream, such as problems with the knees, hips, and even up to the hands. Please do NOT replace the cleats prior to the session; they provide valuable information.

Cleat adjustment is an integral part of the fitting process, but it is also offered as a standalone session. In this case, I recommend bringing your bike so that I can dynamically assess the accuracy of the settings and determine the need for any additional adaptations, such as varus/valgus adjustments, addressing leg length discrepancies, assessing pressure distribution, and checking the length of the pedal spindles.

Yes, but for accurate results, the bike must be identical in terms of geometry and components, especially the saddle. It’s crucial not to copy your road bike measurements onto a Mountain Bike or a triathlon bike, as it typically doesn’t work well. Even if it seems to work, you may eventually realize it’s not a good idea.

If the geometry and components are indeed identical, there’s no problem. However, if they differ, you should anticipate and adapt to some differences. Regardless, it’s essential to ensure that any necessary adaptations don’t compromise your safety or the bike’s handling.

After the bike-sizing session, you’ll receive a list of bikes that match your position. However, after a bike-fitting, the result can guide you toward specific geometry, brands, and models, but further details are only given on request as an extra service.

For personalized model recommendations, including the exact size and necessary components, you can request a ‘bike prescription’ using the booking calendar. This service involves concentration, research, calculations, email exchanges, and expertise, so it’s billed at 20 € per quarter of an hour. Your understanding is appreciated, and the more precise your request, the more cost-effective it becomes.

Calculations are based on precise coordinates measured at the end of your fitting, ensuring accuracy. If your last fitting is over two years old, a bike-sizing is recommended.

It’s crucial to recognize the limitations of fitting: the final position is determined by your bike and its components. Ideally, your bike should match your position perfectly. However, often the opposite occurs. If you’re purchasing your dream bike, the cost of a bike-sizing is minimal compared to the potential expense of buying the wrong bike.

If you require either of these services, please send me a request through the booking calendar: [Book now](link).

If you prefer not to use my paid services, you can explore this free tool for assistance: [https://www.velogicfit.com/frame-comparison]

I’d be delighted to ensure your session concludes with perfectly adjusted cleats. Here are two options for acquiring them:

  1. Purchase them before your bike fit if you trust your local bike shop’s advice. Ensure they thoroughly assess your feet, measuring both and considering width as well as length. It’s advisable to try them later in the day when your feet are at their fullest size. I generally discourage purchasing shoes online due to fit uncertainties.

  2. Alternatively, I exclusively work with Lake shoes, chosen for their quality and performance, as detailed on this page. If you’re interested in my recommendations, they’ll be part of your session. To ensure availability, it’s best to schedule an appointment before your fitting so I can check if the desired shoe is in stock. If not, I can usually have it within a couple of days.

Preparation and Requirements

  • For a fit, cleat adjustment, or custom footbeds, please ensure your bike and shoes are clean and tires and suspension properly inflated.
  • For triathlon and time trial bikes, bring the complete kit that came with the bike (especially the spacer kit, if available).
  • For all formulas, bring your cycling shoes. Do not mount new cleats before the fit, as brand new cleats provide limited information. If they are worn out, I will replace them after seeing the old ones on your shoes.
  • For all formulas, wear your usual cycling outfit, preferably shorts, as measurements made with jeans may distort the results.
  • After adjustments in the Basic & Ortho formulas, a brief outdoor test ride will be suggested to validate the changes (not applicable for the Express formula). Therefore, you might also need weather-appropriate clothing.
  • For a triathlon or time trial fit, bring your competition helmet. The helmet is also necessary for an outdoor test with other types of bike.
  • For Basic & Ortho formulas, bring medical reports or X-ray check-ups if you’re consulting for pain or discomfort related to cycling.
  • For all formulas, you have the opportunity to take a shower after your session, so bring everything you need for that purpose.
  • The session duration is between two and four hours, depending on the chosen formula(s). Keep in mind that small adjustments might take more time than expected.

This list will be emailed to you as part of the appointment confirmation process. PLEASE REREAD IT THE DAY BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT.

Please only replace them if they might break and pose a safety issue. New cleats don’t provide me with any indications, but used cleats can offer valuable insights into the way your feet move and push on your pedals.

If you suspect they might need replacement, I can take care of it. You can either bring them along or purchase new cleats on the spot

Duration and Timing

The duration of a typical session may vary based on the specific service and the complexity of adjustments needed.

  • The Express fit is designed to be completed within two hours.
  • The Basic fit typically lasts around three hours, with an additional half-hour for the Ortho fit.
  • Additional services may extend the duration of your session accordingly.

If you are a returner, your session will require less time.

Standalone sessions are generally shorter and offer more flexibility in scheduling.

The lead time for booking a session may vary based on availability and demand. I recommend booking your session in advance to secure your preferred date and time slot. For urgent bookings or last-minute inquiries, please contact me directly to check for availability.

The best time to book a fit depends on several factors, including your current riding experience, any upcoming events or races, and your availability for follow-up adjustments. Here are a few guidelines to consider:

  1. Before Major Events or Races: If you have a significant race or event coming up, it’s best to schedule your fit well in advance so you have time to adjust to any changes and ensure your bike setup is optimized for performance.

  2. During Off-Peak Riding Season: If you have a less busy riding schedule during certain times of the year, such as the off-peak winter season, this could be a good time to schedule your fit. This allows you to fine-tune your setup and make any necessary adjustments before the busier riding season begins.

  3. With Sufficient Lead Time: Some bike fitters may have busy schedules, especially during peak riding seasons. Booking your fit well in advance ensures you can secure a convenient appointment time that aligns with your schedule.
  4. Before Purchasing a New Bike or Equipment: If you’re planning to purchase a new bike or significant equipment upgrades, scheduling a fit before making the purchase is highly recommended. This allows you to determine the ideal bike size, geometry, and components based on your fit measurements.

  5. If you don’t experience significant discomfort while riding your bike and feel you can ride it comfortably, we can proceed with the fitting after you’ve had several rides to familiarize yourself with your bike. However, if you’re experiencing significant discomfort, it’s best not to wait too long to book your fitting session.

Ultimately, the best time to book your fit is when you can dedicate enough time and attention to the process, ensuring you receive a thorough assessment and optimal adjustments tailored to your needs. If you’re unsure about the timing, don’t hesitate to consult with your bike fitter for personalized guidance based on your specific circumstances.
