ACTIVE 2.1 – Relief for intervertebral discs and sit bones
With the Ergowave® design and active 2.1 technology, the SQlab 612 saddle is suitable for sporty road bike and mountain bike use.
MORE COMFORT & RELIEF. Its wave-like shape and the raised rear ensure perfect rearward support and optimal pressure distribution down to the deep structures of the body, which significantly improves power transmission to the pedal. The lowered nose, in combination with the recess in the middle, creates more space and clearance in the perineal area.
INCREASED MOBILITY. However, the current 611 model has not only received an upgrade in terms of design for long uphills and trail descents. Equipped with the revised active 2.1 construction, the saddle not only follows the pedalling movement more easily, but also more gently, increasing comfort, reducing pressure on the sit bones and mobilising the intervertebral discs.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL. In addition, many other small detail improvements in terms of technology and material have been incorporated into the current 612 model. For example, findings from the development of the 612 Ergowave® R shell construction also make the Ergowave® active 2.1 significantly lighter.
The special active construction of the saddle allows a movement of the pelvis in a horizontal plane. This ensures the so-called pelvic swing – as in natural walking.
In the Sport 2.1 version, the active connection has not only become lighter, but also much smoother. This increases the comfort of the sit bones as well as the relief of the intervertebral discs. In particular, the mobilization of the intervertebral discs is now clearly noticeable. Thanks to smaller elastomers, the active movement is also even more adjustable.
ERGOWAVE® – Performance based ergonomics
The Ergowave® saddle shape is the result of an SQlab research project in cooperation with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and the Frankfurt University Hospital, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
On the basis of calculations which recorded the forces occurring between the cyclist and the bike saddle down to the deepest structures of the body, a design was developed which achieved absolute best values below the maximum load limits in all tests and enables a more ergonomically agressive sitting position both on the road bike and on the MTB.
Perfect fit | A prerequisite for maximum performance is a fit that is perfectly adapted to the athlete. Accordingly, different widths from 12 to 16 cm are available depending on the saddle model.
Sleek rear end | The raised rear end provides more support towards the rear and ensures a more efficient power transmission.
Saving energy | The wave-shaped elevation of the Ergowave® saddles stretching from the rear to the front perfectly matches the shape of the mostly bulbous ischial branches. The rider does not have to adopt any energy-consuming protective postures. All the energy is available for propulsion.
Lower saddle nose | The lowered saddle nose puts less pressure on sensitive areas. For men and women alike.
Biomechanics | The SQlab active technology’s lateral pelvic movement of up to 7°, which is similar to walking from a biomechanical point of view, increases the efficiency of the pedalling movement. At the same time the intervertebral discs are relieved and the comfort at the sit bones is increased.
Suspension setup | The proven SQlab active technology has been tuned tighter for the Road and MTB Race range of use and is also adjustable via elastomers in three degrees of hardness.
Center Dip | The slight depression in the middle of the saddle reduces the pressure on the sensitive structures of the perineal area.
Low and flat | The flat, only very slightly curved shape of the saddle nose results in a maximum contact surface with correspondingly little pressure. At the same time, the nose is very narrow and lateral friction during pedalling is reduced to a minimum. This shape, called MaxContact®, has already proven itself in several other race models in recent years and has been implemented even more consistently for the Ergowave® series.
